Video Tape Transfers

What many people don't realize is that videotapes have a shelf life. VHS tapes begin to deteriorate after just 10-25 years, and the degradation is often invisible until it's too late. If your tapes were recorded in the 80s or 90s, the clock is already ticking. Don't wait for a holiday gathering to discover that the footage is gone.

Beyond preservation, there's another reason to make the switch — convenience. Once your tapes are converted to digital files, watching them is effortless. No rewinding, no bulky equipment, no searching for a VCR that still works. Your home movies become just as easy to pull up as any other video on your phone or TV. Share a clip with a family member across the country, save a highlight to your camera roll, or sit down and watch the whole thing together on movie night — all without digging through a box in the basement.

Your Family's Story Shouldn't Be Stuck on a Shelf

Those tapes sitting in a box in your basement hold some of the most meaningful moments of your life — and right now, most people have no way to watch them. Once converted to digital at our Bloomfield Hills or West Bloomfield, MI locations, your home movies can be streamed on your smart TV, shared in a family group chat, uploaded to the cloud, or saved to a USB drive for every family member to keep. No special equipment, no rewinding, no guessing whether the tape will even play. Digital makes it easy to relive those moments whenever you want — and to share them with the people who weren't there, or weren't yet born.

Who Else Needs a Copy?

The best way to share your renewed video and movie footage is by getting family members their very own copy. It's no fun to pass the same DVD or USB drive around to family across the world, and the digital movie files are too large for online sharing. As you're embarking on your project, think of grandparents, parents, siblings, cousins, children and grandchildren who may appreciate a copy today — or when they're grown up.

FAQ: Video Tape Transfer Services

Every tape is rewound and then captured start to finish to make sure we recover all content. If a tape stops prior to expected recording times, we capture it a second time for verification. Our goal is to return every single moment that's on that tape — nothing gets skipped or left behind.
Absolutely! If your tapes are labeled, we'll keep the content in chronological order and honor your organization system. Have special notes or requests? We'll do our best to accommodate them. These are precious memories, and we treat every project as if it were our own — just ask if you have a specific need.
Once your tape is captured, a trained technician reviews the footage to remove dead space and any commercial content from the final output. We evaluate each tape to ensure the best possible quality before delivery. Your digital files are then returned to you in the format of your choosing — USB flash drive, digital download, or DVD. You'll also receive all of your original tapes back.
In many cases, yes — and we encourage you to bring them in sooner rather than later. The earlier a tape comes to us, the better your chances of a successful transfer. If you're unsure about the condition of your tapes, just bring them in and we'll take a look at no charge.
